Bob Law: photographer, walker and writer.

My name is Bob Law and I was born in Glasgow in 1956 on the south side but now live in the west end. I’ve been an active hill walker, rock climber, Scottish Island bagger, keen amateur photographer, and explorer for many years, both in Scotland and Europe. I still live in Glasgow and have a popular blog Alex and Bob’s Blue Sky Scotland so feel free to drop in.

Glasgow – Quieter Parks and Cityscapes Town and city parks throughout the UK have provided essential green spaces during the last year. Especially during lockdown. They are one place where family members can meet outdoors, children can play in relative safety and folk can exercise. In Scotland at the moment we are restricted to our […]

Bob Law: North Pollok Walk, Glasgow

Househill Park at Crookston

An Unusual Walk One recent walk I started at the Silverburn Shopping Centre in the middle of Pollok, which may seem a strange place to start a country walk fbut Pollok is full of surprises. It is very green, having once been part of the much larger Pollok estate grounds, a small section of which […]

We may be living through trying times at the moment but getting out in nature always helps, even if it’s just somewhere local. For me Glasgow’s public parks, in various locations, offer great views across the city. Pollok Pavement Many of the parks started out as grand estates often situated on hill tops. Some are […]

Dumbarton to Balloch along the River Leven

River Leven Cycletrack Walkway

With Covid 19 restrictions easing a little recently and living within easy cycling distance of Dumbarton I decided to visit Dumbarton, Levengrove Park, then follow the River Leven  walkway/cycle-track upstream until it reaches Balloch and Loch Lomond. The River Leven may be one of Scotland’s shortest rivers but it has plenty of interest along its […]

Even during lockdown nature can lift your spirits, especially in Spring during a long run of perfect days. Walks or cycle rides from my house in the West End of Glasgow have revealed a wonderland going about its own business, unconcerned by any human malady.

Reflection Curve on Loch Ruthven. Inverness Highlands.

On calm still days with little wind any body of water, be it sea, lake, loch, river, canal, or puddle often provides a beautiful mirror image of the surrounding landscape. Modern cameras are very good at picking this up. You only have to be in the right spot at the right time. Here’s a selection: […]

Bob Law: Torridon – Collecting Corbetts in the Scottish Mountains

The Ascent of Ruadh Stac Beag

Torridon is one of the greatest mountain regions in the British isles. 3000 foot plus peaks soar majestically isolated, resembling warring castles as you travel down the glen, massive buttresses and ramparts looming over the tiny road beneath, each mountain separate, both in distance and character and all very different and unique. Beinn Alligin, 985 […]
