Town Hall Meeting U.S.A. Leela Soma

lown hall man brighter

Town Hall Meeting I attended  my first Town Hall meeting in USA. As Boris Johnson is creating chaos in the ‘Mother of Parliaments’ I was curious to see how invested our cousins over the pond were in politics, especially in these politically polarised times. Well I was in for a treat. Not a Maga hat […]

Onion by Leela Soma – vegetable inspired poetry

onions leela

Onion A perfect bulb of crystalline beauty growing in the darkness of the earth petal by petal, gentle stalks of green showing up in the sun, a promise of a taste to enhance cuisines around the world. A humble root vegetable makes us tear up with no hurt, reveals no core, layer upon layer peeled […]

Flowers – poems by Leela Soma

red flower leela

Jewels of summer A glance from the car at the traffic light My eyes widen at the jewel strewn scene Purple and white crocus, narcissi bright Like amethysts and diamonds that shine. Green grass with moist sun-touched dew Like glitter sparkling, under the bare tree. A north wind whips gusts strong The infant buds defiant, […]

Mackintosh at the Willow by Leela Soma

So how is Celia Sinclair’s £10 million restoration of the iconic Mackintosh at the Willow and the Salon Deluxe in particular? To find out we had to treat ourselves to an afternoon tea. The restoration of Mrs. Cranston’s tearoom by the business woman Celia Sinclair intrigued me after seeing the BBC documentary  The documentary showed the […]

Autumn Visit to USA by Leela Soma

Fall in Washington DC As my friends in Glasgow are getting into their Autumn woolies, here in the Fall in DC it is still 90 degrees during the day and humid. Shorts and flimsy tops are de riguer. My summer has been extended by a few more weeks and I am relishing it, in air […]

leela's home.jpg

Full Circle Saturday 23 rd. August 1969, a day to remember, forever. They waved me off to my new life in Glasgow. My mum and the whole family. Tears glistened in their eyes, mine filled with tears and a nervous chill spread across my spine as I settled into the Air – India seat. The […]

First Love – a poem by Leela Soma for Valentine’s Day

lovesign

First Love       My first love, teen fresh, skin aglow A pearly sunny summer, so, so slow, Kisses rich, fondles and caresses mellow Our hearts and minds entwined, not low. Your breath on my skin, touch so soft That summer blue, the azure sky, the lot Laughter and love, like a cloying sweet Wonder now, […]

Scottish Festival in Buffalo NY – Leela Soma

scotbuf

Where ever I go to in the world I’m looking for connections. Anything that connects Scotland to the place I am visiting or any connections to India, the land of my birth. Each time I came to Buffalo I tried to find something that reflects that. It makes any travel more interesting, the personal within […]

The American Association of University Women Book Sale, Buffalo, New York

literary authors

I’ve been to a few book sales in Glasgow, ( even one in my school days, bought Anna Karenina to impress all, never got beyond page 20!) especially ones for charity, but this was astonishingly huge in scale in every way. The number of books, two halls, and number of donations, the volunteers and the […]

Leela Soma: Trip to Canada

walk along the river.jpg

Canada! What excites me about Canada is the familiar yet different feel of the country. Coming from Glasgow, Scotland, I am reminded by every street name, town name of the origins of this country. Wiki:   “Scottish Canadians are people of Scottish descent or heritage living in Canada. As the third-largest ethnic group in Canada and among the first to settle in Canada, Scottish […]
