AMAZING INSECTS, BUG HUNT at the Garden
Sunday 19th May 2-4pm
Come along and witness the array of insects living right under your nose and learn why these often overlooked creatures are natural heroes.
This free family friendly event is a collaboration with our friends at BugLife.
Starting on Thursday 23rd May PERFORMANCE POETRY CLASSES with Viv Gee
Thursdays 6.30 – 8.30pm, 23rd May, 30thMay, 6th June and 13th June with the chance to perform at our summer social event on Sunday 16th June
The first three poetry workshops will focus on writing content and technique by using different approaches to stimulate ideas from the natural surroundings. We will then concentrate on performance skills in the fourth week with a chance to perform a few days later at a Woodlands Community Garden event. Viv Gee is a lecturer in Stand-Up comedy at University of Strathclyde and also teaches poetry skills to adults and children alike. As a performance poet she has previously supported Saul Williams, John Hegley, John Cooper Clarke, Henry Rollins, Edwin Morgan and Jean Binta Breeze.
Saturday 25th May Cycle Trip to Possil Marsh
Meet at the garden at 1.30pm
Possil Marsh is a wild bird sanctuary consisting of marshland swamp and fen around a shallow freshwater lake. 150 different bird species have visited the marsh, 30 of which breed there now. If we are lucky we might see reed bunting, willow warbler and sedge warbler; not to mention unusual plant-life including orchids, ragged robin, and marsh cinquefoil.
Meet at Woodlands Community Garden at 1.30pm or join the route at Maryhill Shopping Centre at 2pm for a lovely 20 minute cycle to Possil Marsh along the canal to Lambhill Stables where you can chain up your bikes for the 40 minute – 1 hour walk around Possil Marsh. The walk is easy and accessible. Children need to be accompanied by adults. More info email Vicki [email protected] Bio-diverse is a project supported by Scottish Natural Heritage
