Love Stories and Stories of Spring by Glasgow Writers- A Promise of Love, Mary Irvine
A Promise of Love
by Mary Irvine
The train was late so I had time to appraise my fellow travellers. Mostly unremarkable, I thought, as my gaze surreptitiously moved over them. But then my gaze swept back to a figure standing slightly to the side of where I was sitting His back was towards me. The most striking grey-white hair hung just below shoulder level. He was tall, well over six foot. Very well built but, even from the back, I could see it was muscle, not fat. His long, black shirt, the cuffs slightly turned back, hung loosely over black linen trousers which, in turn, bunched over black moccasins. From one hand hung a guitar whilst the other held a cigarette between thumb and fore-finger. My stare was so intense I think he sensed it. Turning he caught and held my gaze. I had never seen such piercing, yet beautiful, blue, blue eyes. I was in love.
