Golden Hare Books proudly invites you to an evening in the company of one of Sweden’s leading writers, acclaimed poet, playwright, novelist and critic Magnus Florin. Magnus will be joining us to discuss his most recent novel, The Garden, the first of his books to be translated into English by pioneering Edinburgh publishing house Vagabond Voices.

The Garden is a finely wrought and deeply researched portrait of Carl Linnaeus, one of the most eminent figures in the Swedish Enlightenment, famous for his classification of animals and plants that continues to be used in modern biology to this day. In vivid prose, Florin weaves together impressionistic fragments of this great thinker’s life – Linnaeus in discussion with his gardener, whose world view is very different from his own; Linnaeus teaching and conversing with his students; Linnaeus caring for his sickly siblings; Linnaeus alone and deep in thought – into a unique work of imagination and intrigue, unafraid to question the shape of our world and the roots of existence.
