“Big Songs in Small Rooms: Why Glasgow’s Small Music Venues Matter More Than Ever”
From Taylor Swift and Harry Styles to the Oasis reunion, demand for live music has never been higher. Yet while stadium shows generate headlines and millions of pounds, the grassroots venues where artists develop their craft are facing an uncertain future. In this talk, music journalist and lifelong gig-goer Lisa-Marie Ferla explores why small music venues matter so much to Glasgow’s cultural life. Through stories of legendary local stages, the challenges facing independent venues and a personal experience that changed her life, she’ll argue that music’s greatest power isn’t found in arenas packed with thousands of people – but in small rooms, shared with strangers, just like this one.
