Ann MacKinnon, Scottish Writers Centre

Ann MacKinnon presents The Great Tapestry of Scotland in Poetry and Pictures. She talks us through the making of the tapestry and touches on the significance of some of the panels to her. She intersperses her talk with poems form her book Warp and Weft which is published by Red Squirrel Press.
Ann MacKinnon writes in Scots and English. A New Scottish Writers’ Award led to a pamphlet ‘Nae Flooers’ being published by Tapsalteerie. She is widely published in anthologies and magazines, particularly Lallans..Modren Makars Yin, a Scots collaboration was published by Tapsalteerie in 2022.
She was nominated for the Scots Writer of the Year in 2022. Warp and Weft was published by Red Squirrel Press in 2024.
She enjoys performing, doing workshops, and giving talks. She is a cofounder of Balloch Open Mic.
She came second in the Neil Gunn Competition and was commended in the McCash
Competition in 2024 and was commended again in the McCash in 2026. She was Makar for the Federation of Writers, Scotland for 2025.
Her latest publication is a novel – A Week in May published by First Chapter and available online.
