Award-winning writer Damian Barr (writer & broadcaster – Maggie & MeYou Will Be Safe Here, and Big Scottish Book Club) alongside award-winning writer James Ley (writer & director- Ode to Joy, Wilf, and Love Song to Lavender Menace) will be interviewed by National Theatre of Scotland Artistic Director Jackie Wylie for a fascinating in-depth conversation.

Maggie & Me – from Page to Stage marks the world premiere and tour of the National Theatre of Scotland’s production of Maggie & Me in May & June 2024, and to celebrate Pride Month.

Published in 2013, Maggie & Me, Damian Barr’s celebrated memoir about growing up gay in Thatcher’s Britain, was named Sunday Times Memoir of the Year, awarded the Paddy Power Political Satire Award and saw Barr named Stonewall Writer of the Year.

From the furnaces of the Ravenscraig Steelworks to the sanctuary of Carfin Grotto, there’s pain and joy, coming of age and coming out and the powerful spectre of Margaret Thatcher.

“You resist by telling your story, you resist by being honest about your pain and suffering, and not having to bear that silently.” Damian Barr

Damian and James will talk to Jackie about the collaborative creative journey undertaken to transform Damian’s deeply personal memoir into a bold and explosive new production for the stage.
