For many, the best part of the festival is WestFest’s exciting and diverse
programme of free community events. As well as old favourites such as the Vinicombe Street
Gala, this year will see the return of The Big Sunday @ Kelvingrove Bandstand, the Queen Margaret Drive Festival and thereturn of ‘Drag at The Bandstand’, this years’ festival fundraiser.

The WestFest team will be launching this year’s festival brochure on Saturday 20th April with a samba band performance tour across the West End from Sambayabamba and Think Circus. The team are inviting folk from across Glasgow to come and join them to celebrate the launch of WestFest 2024!

The timings and locations are:

1pm Kelvingrove Park Stewart Memorial Fountain
2pm Kelvingrove Galleries Front Piazza
3pm Glasgow Botanic Gardens

The WestFest team will be handing out free WestFest brochures at the launch, of which 50,000 will be distributed across the West End and central belt from this week.

WestFest’s Director is Brendon McIlroy who founded the festival in 2022 in response to ‘overwhelming demand’ for community and cultural events in the West End, in the absence of former festivals.

Brendon says, ‘We’re absolutely delighted to be launching WestFest’s 2024 programme. We’ve been hard at it for 6 months, pulling together a diverse mix of events, with our focus this year being to reach further across the West End to produce and feature events in areas we haven’t historically delivered in. After all, the West is bigger than Hillhead ‘

Brendon continues, ‘Things are generally rather bleak for people just now, with the country facing a range of unprecedented challenges. With WestFest we’re focusing on providing some levity and enrichment, and also opportunity for communities to come together. All of the outdoor community events WestFest produce are free and accessible to all… and always will be!’
