Jim’s Photography Diary December 2013: Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Great Western Road, Christmas Lights
Photos from my Glasgow West End Walks: artist Margaret MacDonald, the wife of Charles Rennie Mackintosh (he said she was the genius of the partnership), Brutalist architecture at Glasgow University, Great Western Road and Kelvinbridge looking very wintery, Kelvingrove Park on a misty morning, Byres Road in the rain, statues in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery that appear to be talking to each other, a self portrait of the painter John Pringle.
Both Margaret MacDonald and Charles Rennie Mackintosh were – of course – Westenders. They stayed at 78 Southpark Avenue; not far from our old home in Glasgow Street, Hillhead. Their original home was demolished; I think it was probably during the 60’s when the University was expanding. However it has been recreated as part of the Hunterian Art Gallery; a must see attraction for visitors.
