Aye Write Book Festival 2014, Stewart Conn: A Glaswegian Edinburgh Makar, 5th April
Stewart Conn: A Glaswegian Edinburgh Makar
5 Apr 2014 • 4:30 P.M – 5:30 P.M • Mitchell Library
The work of Glasgow born Edinburgh Makar Stewart Conn reflect the dual inheritance of both cities.
Glasgow and Edinburgh dance a pas-de-deux in the poetry of Stewart Conn. The first Edinburgh Makar was born in Hillhead and worked for the BBC in Glasgow. His new Selected Poems reflect that dual inheritance, as well as his grounding in drama. Conn’s poetry is remarkable in its lucidity and clarity, its acute observation and emotional range, whether dealing with art, marriage, landscape, loss or summoning the ghosts of poets past.
Edinburgh based Stewart Conn has been called ‘one of Scotland’s most skilled and wide-ranging poets’. Over recent decades his work has been widely published, anthologised and translated. With Jen Hadfield he will judge the first Edwin Morgan Poetry Award, the winner to be announced in August 2014.
