Anti-Racist Community Library – Woodlands Community Black History Month 2026

Woodlands Community marks Black History Month with a special edition of its Anti-Racist Community Library, bringing together books, poetry, creative activity and conversation in a relaxed community setting.

Visitors can browse and borrow books from a collection designed for readers of all ages, with the October session placing Black history, literature and culture at the centre of the programme.

Various Activities for all ages

A Black History Month zine-making workshop will take inspiration from Jeffrey Boakye’s Musical Truth: A Musical History of Modern Black Britain in 28 Songs. Boakye’s work explores modern Black British history through music, connecting songs and artists with wider stories of migration, identity, racism, resistance and cultural change.

Families can also join a children’s storytime at 11:30am, while at 1pm there will be a reading of poetry by Caleb Femi, the award-winning British-Nigerian poet whose work has explored childhood, community and Black British life.

The format makes this a particularly accessible Black History Month event. Rather than concentrating on a single historical figure, the library encourages visitors to discover different voices and experiences through literature and conversation.

Woodlands Community’s Language Exchange will also be running alongside the library, giving visitors the opportunity to practise languages, learn new words and meet people from across Glasgow’s diverse communities.

For families, readers and anyone wanting a quieter and more participatory way to engage with Black History Month, this free Sunday gathering offers books, creativity and community under one roof.
