I'll be playing a gig this Friday (6th March) with Andi Neate at Woodend Bowling Club. This is a Sounds in Suburbs promotion organised by Alan Hendry. Alan always puts on good people - so I'm expecting a great night. The Woodend Bowling Clubs is a fantastic wee venue for live music; come along - say hello - and enjoy the music - you'll not regret it.
My own special guest for the evening will be Graham McIntosh. Graham played guitar on my CD; you'll instantly recognise his sound if you've heard the track, 'The Handle's Broken on my Cup'. I'm looking forward to playing with Graham, as he is a great guitarist and I know he will add a bit of musical magic to the night.
I'm planning to play a couple of new songs; the first being a song I wrote with the Jazz singer Carol Kidd MBE (ehh! you threw that one in rather nonchalantly Jim) - which is a true story related to her experience of coming across a group of gypsies when she was a little girl; it's a cracker of a song - in my humble opinion.
The other new song I'm planning to play is one I wrote last Saturday. We'd been to a gig on Friday evening in The Liquid Ship - had a really enjoyable night listening to the Carlton Jug Band and the Ballachulish Hellhounds . On the way up the road I said to Pat that I really needed to write some fun songs - because I was so impressed by the music I'd heard earlier. So I got up Saturday morning and wrote a tune - which to be honest - looks like it might be about depression - not fun at all - but there you go - it's difficult to control this songwriting lark. I like it though - it's a wee bit different from my usual style.
The other gig I played at recently was in The Hidden Lane Cafe on Sunday - a gig organised by Chris from Brawth. Another enjoyable evening with both Francis and Chris playing great sets. I had a go at the new song I had written the previous day - which given that I had to read the words - seemed to go down well.
That's all for now. Hope to see you at the Woodend Bowling and Tennis Club, Jordanhill on Friday 6th March.
All the best, Jim
