Castro’s Spies, Havana Glasgow Film Festival
18 November, 2021
Castro’s Spies at Glasgow Film Theatre HGFF
Hailed as the last soldiers of the Cold War, The Cuban Five were an elite group of undercover agents who operated out of Florida in the 1990s. Abandoning unsuspecting families to ‘defect’ to America, they assumed new identities, led double lives and sacrificed everything to defend Castro’s Cuba from the threat of foreign attack. This fascinating, forensic film features in-depth interviews with all five agents, revealing the risks they took and their place in the bigger picture of fraught Cuban-American relations. A documentary as tense as any John le Carré novel.
All the Friday films are closed captioned and a BSL interpreter will be present throughout the evening. Please check the programme for other cc’d films.
Film Passes, costing £15 / £7.50 allow access to all the online films and events, with an additional cost of £0/£2/£4/£6/£8 for live events on a pay-what-you-can basis except for the special screening of Castro’s Spies @ the GFT.
