Bob Law: Walking and Cycling in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde

Cycling Heaven in Renfrewshire

For the past 50 years I have been lucky enough to have lived not far from Renfrewshire and Inverclyde, I’ve completed hundreds of walks and cycle rides in this area, decade by decade, yet every year I still enjoy it and remarkably I’m still finding new walks that are both surprising and enjoyable.

Glasgow OS Landranger map sheet 64 and Firth of Clyde OS Landranger map 63 are easily my most treasured possessions for trips outdoors.

Parking – Access for Cyclists and Walkers Renfrewshire and Inverclyde

A few obvious parking spots give access to this great varied district. The Boden Boo car park under the Erskine Bridge gives cyclists and walkers access to walks and trips around Erskine New Town and along the River Clyde, in both directions upstream and down. Kilmacolm and Knapps loch car parks gives access to Quarriers Village,

The nearby cycle-track, and the network of quiet minor roads surrounding this pretty area. Glen Moss and the right of way path to Langbank from Kilmacolm are lesser known gems as is the rough moor track from Muirshiel Country Park to Hardridge Farm.

Castle Semple car park gives you the option of different walks and trips along the cycle track there or minor roads and paths around Belltrees, Barcraigs Reservoir, and Lochlands Hill range. Cornalees Bridge Centre car park gives you the Greenock Cut and the Kelly Cut. It is an area where good walks are not always immediately obvious but finding them when you do arrive and explore is part of the joy.
