Bob Law: Troon to Irvine Coastal Walk
An enjoyable walk I did recently with a friend was to walk from Troon at low tide along the beach to Irvine and the Magnum Beach Park, then return back via the railway in Irvine two stops down the line to Troon.

Troon Beach
It’s a flat easy walk of just over 8km or 5 miles and takes around 3 hours at an easy pace.

Irvine Sculpture
There are good views out to sea, sand dunes and varied habitats with Irvine Harbour offering pubs, a Maritime Museum and attractive river frontage housing. The small curved raised headland sitting directly above Troon Harbour/Marina can also be easily added to this walk.

The Ship Inn Irvine
The main car park and toilet block in Troon used to be free but is now contactless payment only, no cash allowed, but you can also park in the quiet back streets if coming by car, as we did. You can also take a train or bus down to Troon or Irvine. Good discounts are available with over 60s card on train or if under 22 years of age free travel by bus.

Scottish Maritime Museum
It is far easier and more enjoyable to walk when the tide is out and BBC tide times and weather information is available online.
A trip best saved for a dry bright day as the route is wide open with no shelter from rain.
