Ali Whitelock and Skye Loneragan – Scottish Writers Centre

Whilst celebrating the work of two gifted writers, this event intends to explore and celebrate social and cultural connections between Scotland and Australia as well as the difficulties and rewards facing writers living and working in other cultures.
Ali Whitelock is a Scottish poet/writer living in Australia. Her second poetry collection, ‘the lactic acid in the calves of your despair’ was launched in March 2020 (by Wakefield Press). Her first collection, ‘and my heart crumples like a coke can’ was also published by Wakefield Press, with a UK edition coming in April 2020 by Polygon, Edinburgh. Ali’s first book, a memoir, ‘poking seaweed with a stick and running away from the smell’ was launched at Sydney Writers Festival and published to critical acclaim in Australia and the UK. She is currently working on her second memoir amongst various other projects.
Skye Loneragan is an award-winning writer/performer whose work spans theatre, poetry and live art. Her first solo work Cracked, won an Edinburgh Fringe First, her 7th and most recent (This Be Madness) was part of the SMHAF, 2018.
As Artistic Director for Toonspeak Young Peoples Theatre, Skye directed ‘Lost & Found’ (Whisky Bond) and ‘Seven Signs’ (Merchant City, Glasgow). Collaborations include Skye & Skye on Skye with dancer Skye Reynolds, questionning what really is in a name.
Skye is Lead Artist and creator of ‘Q-POETICS’, (poetry in queues), which premiered at the Sydney Writers Festival 2013. Q-poetics emerged from the public art engagement strategy, Making a Map of My Mistakes.
