Karen Campbell: Novelist at Creative Conversations

Karen Campbell was awarded a Scottish Arts Council New Writers’ bursary in 2002, and graduated from Glasgow University’s Creative Writing Masters in 2003. Before turning to writing, she was a police officer in Glasgow, and her first four novels (The Twilight Time, After the Fire, Shadowplay, Proof of Life)focus on the people behind the uniform. Her fifth novel This is Where I Am, about a Somali refugee in Glasgow was a Radio 4 Book at Bedtime, and has been optioned for TV – as have her police books. Originally from Glasgow, Karen now lives in Galloway, where she completed her sixth novel Rise, set in Argyle in the run-up to the 2014 Independence referendum. In 2015, Karen was awarded a Creative Scotland Artist’s Bursary for research into her most recent novel, The Sound of the Hours. Set in Italy in World War 2, it tells the story of a US Buffalo soldier, and a Scots-Italian family living in Barga. More at www.karencampbell.co.uk
