Bob McDevitt
Bob McDevitt brings a wealth of talent and experience to the integral position of Festival Programmer, having programmed both the Pitlochry Winter Words Festival and the Dundee Literary Festival. He is well-known and respected in the publishing and book selling industry, after a career that spans more than twenty years. During this time Bob has been involved in Aye Write! in a variety of roles, supporting the steering group, delivering events as a panel member and Chair as well as supporting event delivery as a publisher. This understanding and his track record together with his drive and passion for taking the festival onto the next level ensured his appointment.
Speaking about his appointment Bob McDevitt said: “I am honoured and delighted to be given the opportunity to programme Aye Write! Over the last ten years I have relished my involvement in the festival, watching it flourish and seeing the audiences’ obvious enjoyment.
“Reading is a truly empowering experience that can fuel our imagination and our emotions. I am very much looking forward to growing the festival and featuring authors and events from a wide range of genres which I hope will appeal to as many people from across Glasgow as possible.”
Chair of Glasgow Life, Councillor Archie Graham, added: “We believe that reading is a basic human right and crucial for the wellbeing of our citizens. Books provide an important connection with the wider world, enabling us to learn about life, our environment and society at our own individual pace.
“Aye Write! celebrates the written word, it encourages debate and often challenges established ways of thinking. I am very excited by Bob’s appointment. Given his enthusiasm and ambitions for the festival, it is with great anticipation that I look forward to the unveiling of the programme as it enters its tenth year.”
Aye Write! will deliver a programme of talks and events by literary heroes and award-winning authors, ensuring the finest, most popular Scottish, National and International authors come to the city. By sharing their works with avid fans and new audiences the festival helps to raise the profile of reading in Glasgow. It also provides a platform for showcasing the best of Scottish writing by supporting emerging Scottish writers.
There has always been an exceptional programme of events for children, families and school pupils of all ages programmed throughout Aye Write! However, the success of Wee Write! which attracted over 17,000 youngsters and their parents to over 100 events in 2014, has ensured its return. The city’s commitment to a stand-alone book festival for children underlines the importance Glasgow places on prioritising reading and writing. The festival will programme a wealth of children’s events and activities bringing ideas, imagination and creativity to young audiences throughout the city.
The full programme will be announced in early 2015 when tickets will also go on sale.
