35 Shots of Rum, GFT, 7 and 10 October 2017

Claire Denis’ understated 35 Rhums paints an intimate and tender portrait of a widowed father, Lionel, and his young adult daughter Josephine, who live by the train tracks in a Parisian suburb. Their loving relationship is slowly being disrupted by the romantic attentions of two neighbours. When these dynamics stir jealousy and doubt between them, Lionel and Josephine realise they’ve reached a transition point in their lives. Their devotion to each other will soon need to make room for their own independent paths. Screening on 35mm
