Gourmet Glasgow Food and Drink Festival, 2006

Glasgow celebrates it's love of food and drink with competitions, demonstrations by celebrity chefs and many of the city's finest restaurants providing gourmet menus. The main public event will take place at The Old Fruitmarket - part of the refurbished City Halls in the Merchant City

Friday 18 August

The inaugural competition for Glasgow City Council Markets Cup with a team of three city councillors battling against three schoolchildren to produce a three course meal and fruit cocktail. There will aslo be demonstrations from some of Glasgow's finest chefs.

Saturday 19 August

Jean-Christophe Novelli, Celebrity Chef, will be doing three demonstrations over the course of the day and these will be interspersed by demonstrations from chefs from the city's leading restaurants.

On Sunday 20 August

More well known chefs will participate in the festival including Aldo Zilli and Michael CainesA wealth of local talent will be showcased and restaurants involved in the festival include:

  • La Bonne Auberge
  • Michael Caines at ABode
  • Papingo
  • Piccolo Mondo
  • Planet Uno
  • Red Onion
  • 78 St Vincent
  • The Sisters
  • Urban Bar & Brasserie and Urban Grill.

On Saturday and Sunday there will also be Auchentoshan Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Thorn-Clarke wine and Laurent-Perrier champagne masterclasses in the adjoining recital room. These will last for approximately 45 minutes and will each feature a presentation on the whisky / wine / champagne and the opportunity to taste four different types of whisky, wine or champagne. As capacity for these events is limited pre-booking is advised and tickets can be purchased from the online shop.

Due to the nature of the venue, not all public areas are seated.

Friday 11.30am - 9.30pm
Saturday 11.30am - 7.30pm
Sunday 11.30am - 6.00pm

Ticket Information:
Tickets for each day can be purchased in advance at the online shop and as the capacity of the Old Fruitmarket is limited pre-booking is advised although tickets may be on sale at the door (subject to availability)

Admission Prices:
Friday - £5.00 per person
Saturday - £10.00 per person including a free glass of Thorn-Clarke wine
Sunday - £10.00 per person including a free glass of Thorn-Clarke wine

Masterclass Prices:
Thorn-Clarke Wines - Saturday & Sunday 2.00pm - £5.00 per person (if booked in advance, £8 on the day)
Auchentoshan Single Malt Scotch Whisky - Saturday & Sunday 3.00pm - £5.00 per person
Laurent-Perrier Champagnes - Saturday & Sunday 4.00pm - £8.00 per person (if booked in advance, £10 on the day)
