Eating Out in Glasgow West End: Chinese Restaurants

Amber Restaurant

130 Byres Road, G12 8TD (339 6121).

A long established and very popular Cantonese restaurant with an informal atmosphere and impressive selection of dishes. Portions are very generous and the sea food is a particular favourite. Very reasonable with great lunch deals. (£) Half price 5 - 7 pm. Monday - Thursday.

Chow

98 Byres Road, G12 8TB, (334 9818) -

A chic Chinese - just opened in January. Classic chinese cooking with some Japanese influence. A no smoking restaurant with reasonable prices. (£-££) Three course lunch time special £ 6.50.
I think I'll drag my brother Liam down to try out this new addition to the thriving eating scene at the bottom of Byres Road. I have not yet made it along with Liam but John and I have sampled Chow and it really is very good.

Jade Inn

609 Great Western Road, G12 8HX,

Mainly serving take away meals - the small restaurant area is popular with students. It has all the usual dishes and plenty of vegetarian choices. (£)

Mo's, West Princes Street, St Georges Cross

Well worth a visit to experience traditional Malaysian and Cantonese dishes in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Jo and Jack provide first class service and make you very welcome. I had a lovely meal there tonight with my son John. Some of his Chinese friends had recommended Mo's and now it is his favourite place to eat. (16th Feb. 2002) (£ - ££)

Just wanted to make a comment about chow it is absolutely fantastic!!! A bit small but this only affects staff trying to move around ...service is brilliant and the aromatic crispy duck is to die for!!! Needs to be booked in advance though as its reputation is obviously getting known. Cheers Tricia

Wow, this guide about the Chinese restaurants in Glasgow West End area couldn?t have come at a better time for me. I?ve promised to take out a few friends of mine out on a treat because of my recent promotion and they wanted Chinese and I was just wondering which the best place was when I happened to see this guide!! Now I can ask them to have their pick of some of the best Cantonese restraints around the area!!

I love chinese restaurants. I think Amber Regent is one of the best chinese restaurants I know. But I like finding new places and discovering the richness of chinese quisine because there are no two chinese restaurants that would serve exactly the same food - the chinese chefs differ more than any other. So... enjoy the varity :)

Asia Style on St Georges Road is my favourite Chinese/Malayasian restaurant- spicy soft shell crabs are incredible and the chicken curry with the nut and dried little anchovy things is amazing. They have great daily specials too . Service is also very good as is teh free tea.

Try Asia Style beside the Lexus garage at St. Georges Cross. Brilliant food there, very popular with chinese people. The cuisine is truely authentic, and its cheap too!! I am Chinese myself and i rate this as the number one Chinese restaurant in Glasgow.
