Bar style: A local bar with a modern edge. Cool and a wee bit stylish without being pretentious. A warm and friendly atmosphere ? a place you feel you've been going for years.

Typical customer: Simply good people ? young professionals, the discerning student, artists/musicians/creative people, curious tourists.

Why the Drawing Room?: Why the hell not! A relaxed environment with good food, good drinks and some nice stuff to look at on the wall.

Drinks: A carefully selected range of spirits, cocktails and a variety of continental draught and bottled beers. There's a balanced and quality wine list with a range of coffees and teas (including herbal teas).

Food: The food mirrors the theme of the bar ? offering high quality traditional bistro food but done in a modern way. A choice of predominately Scottish tapas are also on offer, creating an attractive and diverse food offering.

Music: Ranging from soul, funk, swing, hip-hop, acoustic, house, blues, alternative, indie ? just as long as its got some soul!

Entertainment: Something for everyone during the week - Quiz, Open mic, Live Music, DJs, Old School Games Afternoon and local art showcased throughout.

Pricing: Not an ?every drink's a ?1? bar but a place that offers value for money. Good well-prepared food and drinks for prices that won't require you to take out that second mortgage.

What Drawing Room is all about

  • Unrivalled customer service ? service with a smile and a personal touch from knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating staff.
  • Supporting local artists of any medium - traditional paintings, music or the spoken word. A place to hang out and be entertained (or indeed entertain!).
  • Relaxing, welcoming, laid-back atmosphere and stylish surroundings ? your local bar with a modern edge.
  • High quality food and drink ? encouraging the grazing culture and lounging with drinks and friends.
  • Entertainment on a daily basis ranging from DJs to film nights.

Where you'll find us

We believe the Kelvingrove area will soon be the new West End. It's up and coming and where the real West-enders currently hang out. For a refreshing alternative to the more traditional areas of the West End, take a stroll down to Kelvingrove.

Drawing Room offers arguably the best view from any establishment in Glasgow. Facing directly onto the serene Kelvingrove Park, the view is further enhanced by the stunning backdrop of the imposing Glasgow University and all its fine gothic architecture.

Explore the area ? you might be surprised! You'll find a cool collection of bars (Drawing Room, The Goat, Firebird, Big Slope), a selection of restaurants, laid back coffee houses and of course Kelvingrove Art Gallery itself ? fully refurbished and attracting over 2 million visitors since reopening in summer 2006.

The bar is only two minutes in a taxi to the city centre or a 10 minute walk.

Profile of the owners

David Johnston and Stephen Kamat decided to call time on the mundane day jobs last year to open up their idea of how a bar should be done. They both had a common vision - making sure customers are always having a good time in laid-back surroundings.

Both David and Stephen had worked for large corporations for a number of years but it never captured their natural enthusiasm. Their vision was to open "a local bar with a modern edge" ? a place that could switch effortlessly between Friday and Saturday night pre-club and lazy Sunday afternoon lounging. And a place that could offer a style of eating that suits the busy and food-conscious lifestyle of people today.

Short biography: Stephen Kamat

DOB 01/07/1974, Glasgow
Stephen has a BA Hons degree in Marketing and over 7 years experience marketing some of the UK's leading brands. In his university years Stephen also ran a series of successful events in local nightclubs including the Sub Club and Rhapsody. He also worked as a resident DJ in Glasgow's Merchant City area. Stephen now cites art among his interests too!

Interesting fact ? Prior to setting up his own business, Stephen had never worked in a bar or restaurant. Like the majority of us, his experience and perception of this industry had been gained from the other side of the bar as a paying customer for many years. But he feels this experience has been crucial, giving him a real insight and direction into the type of bar he wanted to offer.

Short biography: David Johnston

DOB 19/11/1968, Glasgow
David has worked in pubs and restaurants for almost 20 years and can count on a wealth of experience in all aspects of the hospitality trade. During 1992 until 2000 he was licence holder and manager of a bar/restaurant on the Southside of Glasgow (Satchmos). Most recently David has been an Account Manager for HBOS.

Interesting fact: David was actually on the slopes of Val D'Isere when his father phoned asking him to come back and "help out a bit with the pub". David came back to run Satchmos for the next 8 years!
