996 Dumbarton Road, G14 9UJ (569 1036). Friendly and informal atmosphere with high quality food. Party atmosphere is provided by Wilma the singing waitress. The restaurant is very popular for special occasions. A very different night out for that special occasion - bring your wallet. BOYB (£3 per head)
Fanny Trollopes Cafe

Went to this restaurant on 12th November, 2003, with a gang to celebrate Issi Wilson's 50th. Paul Johnstone is a regular and had highly recommended this 'cafe'. It may be cafe style by way of decor, however, the food is brilliant and the service excellent. Very relaxed atmosphere. Apparently the prices have shot up since it opened. Bit pricey but worth it and you can bring your own wine.
(£ £).
We had a great night out.
Comment from Andrew Tonner - 22nd October, 2005 - "Fanny Trollopes was Fab!
just to let you alll know that we had an excellent meal in Fannys last night .What a great place with a super atmosphere. The staff , particularly Leah and owner Mo made us very welcome and we would highly recommend it!"
The Lansdowne Cafe Bar & Grill
7a Lansdowne Crescent, (0141 334 4653).Described as " a hidden gem" (Go!- Glasgow Events & Listings) the Lansdowne is making its mark in Kelvinbridge. The food is beautifully cooked and presented and surroundings are modern and elegant. It's one of the restaurants I frequently recommend to visitors to the West End. A versatile establishment it's lovely for that special meal and great fun for a party.
Jim and I had dinner there on Hallowe'en (we were served by an angel).
It's a good place for a leisurely Sunday breakfast - great value and keeps you going all day.
Football fans can book a booth and enjoy dinner while they watch the match!

We liked the Lansdowne so much that we designed their Web site: http://www.lansdownebar.co.uk
Lux
1051 Great Western Road G12 0XPClean cut lines and a mellow atmosphere create the mood for enjoying the fine food on offer at Lux. In this fairly new establishment staff are friendly and attentive. This has got to be one of my new favourites for special occasions. It is lovely and I had a great time there recently with Jackie, Joan, Maggie and Eleanor. (£££)
Mitchell's West End
35 Ashton Lane G12 8SJ - (339 2220)Small intimate restaurant serving Scottish dishes with a difference - detect that French influence. A bright interior and pleasant service. ££ - £££ (Only open evenings)
Mulberry's, 42 Munro Place, Anniesland. 0141 959 2722
A great restaurant - which you can easily miss if you are not watching out. Just after Anniesland Cross on the left going West. Hefty portions of delicious fare and a friendly atmosphere. Closed Mondays. (££)
Oran Mor
Attracting attention and reviews aplenty is the colossal Oran Mor. I've not visited the restaurant yet, mainly because I can't bring myself to decline any opportunity to sup coffee or eat lunch in the glorious banqueting hall on the top floor. Certainly one of the most beautiful places in Glasgow - where you can sit in awesome surroundings and enjoy a bacon roll. Anne Morland, a frequent West End diner had this to say:We had lunch yesterday at Oran Mor and it was lovely. They have certainly done wonders with the place. My son and daughter were very impressed. In fact we had a wander upstairs after lunch as a friend of my daughter is looking for a place to have her wedding next year and Judith thought she would check the place out for her. (Love Alasdair Gray's roof). She got info on prices etc. (very expensive) but she also informed me that I had to let her Dad know that this is the only place she would have her wedding!!! ...
Anyway we will certainly be back again for lunch. It was strange as we saw many faces from Metro and I am sure they will also be back. The light snack menu was limited - only three things on it but they made up a roast beef sandwich for me which was lovely and Doug and Jude had the Cullen Skink from the main menu which they said was absolutely delicious and was enough for a light lunch.
The Evening Times' Diner Tec and his Moll also paid a visit to Oran Mor - Read the review
Stravaigin
28 Gibson Street, Hillhead. G12 8NX. (334 2665) Should you intend strolling out of an evening in the Hillhead area don't miss out on the award winning Stravaigin.
This friendly restaurant offers good Scottish Food with interesting gastronomic flavours from far flung corners.(££ - £££)
Recently refurbished and brilliant menu. (February, 2006).
More about Stravaigin
Sutherlands,The Argyll Hotel, 969-973 Sauchiehall Street.
A good one for the tourists looking for something 'typically' Scottish or locals seeking to celebrate St Andrew's Day or Burns. Haggis a plenty but also some choice sea food. Good sized portions and nice kiltie staff. (££ - £££) (0141 357 5155. http://www.argyllhotelglasgow.co.uk)
The Ubiquitous Chip
12 Ashton Lane G12 8SJ (334 5007). The Chip spearheaded the rise of fine Scottish restaurants in the West End and has remained popular over almost three decades and has many awards to it's credit. Standards remain high and the menu grows increasingly interesting. (Nice touch is the daily home made bread - March, 2002) You will enjoy the greenery and tranquil atmosphere. (££ - £££) Lunch (£18.95). The smaller upstairs restaurant provides a cheaper option.
Sunday Lunch - £16.60 per person "including an appetiser and a glass of fizz" Jim and I had breakfast at The Chip a few weeks back (April, 2000) and enjoyed it very much. Also watch out for their new mural painted by the famous writer and artist Alasdair Gray. We breakfast at the Chip most Sundays - only problem is it doesn't open until 12.30 - still its worth waiting for. Recently had some very tasty smoked haddock. (March, 2003)
