DVD Rothesay in the Glorious 50s Rothesay Bay bDVD: Royal Rothesay Isle of Bute in the Glorious 50’s

“Royal Rothesay” Isle of Bute, with its magnificent beauty and its historic past, well deserves its royal title. Whether you have links to the Isle of Bute, or if  it holds warm memories of past trips or holidays, we invite you to sail back in time and experience Rothesay in the glorious 1950’s in this nostalgic DVD.

It’s 1954 and “Glasgow Fair Fortnight”, the pier in Rothesay Bay is packed with passengers, trunks, hampers and luggage of all kinds as holidaymakers disembark from one of the many proud Clyde Steamers  – including the Marchioness of Lorne, The PS Caledonia and the PS Jeanie Deans.

Revisit cherished holiday scenes on the beach and promenade at Rothesay, Ettrick or Scalpsie Bay.

Entertainment for visitors was in abundance with popular destinations including:  Rothesay Castle, Skeoch Woods, Loch Fad and live entertainment at the Winter Gardens.

For the more energetic outings could be followed with  a round of golf at the golf course overlooking Canada Hill, a short sailing trip or Café Cruise aboard the Gay Queen or the Victor.  All popular choices when relaxing on those long Summer days.

As the elegant PS Jeanie Deans sweeps into Rothesay Bay with a full load of new passengers our holiday comes to an end and it’s time to leave.

Filmed during the last great peak in the popularity of this beautiful island,  we invite you to visit or revisit the scenes, places and events of Scotland’s Madeira – Royal Rothesay.
