Alejandro González Iñárritu follows up his Best Picture winner Birdman with a brutal tale of man versus man, versus nature. Set in the harsh and uncompromising 1820s American wilderness, the film follows frontiersman Hugh Glass (DiCaprio), an explorer and fur trapper who is left for dead after a vicious bear mauling. Based on real accounts, the film delicately balances the bleak brutality of Glass’ experiences with the stark beauty of the land and its wild inhabitants.
