I Am Not A Witch, GFT 20 – 26 October, 2017

Sharply satirical and boldly provocative, I Am Not a Witch is the first feature by Zambian born Welsh director Rungano Nyoni. Garnering incredible praise from Cannes 2017, this moving, funny and surreal film follows eight-year old Shula when she is accused of witchcraft. After a short trial she is found guilty, taken into state custody and exiled to a witch camp in the middle of the desert. Like the other residents, Shula is tied to a ribbon and threatened, but as she adjusts to her new way of life, she discovers freedoms she never had access to before.
