Celebrated Japanese auteur Hirokazu Kore-eda continues his winning streak with this latest Palme d’Or nominated tale of cross-generational sisterly love. Adapted from a manga, the story revolves around three adult sisters who live together in the house once belonging to their grandmother. When their absentee father dies they are introduced to Suzu, a 13-year-old half-sister they never knew of. Deciding to become the child’s guardians, the sisters find their lives changed in unexpected ways. An engaging story that demonstrates Kore-eda at his most effortlessly charming.
