Sergei Eisenstein travels south to start Que Viva Mexico.
Monday 18 – Thursday 21 April
Peter Greenaway subverts the stodgy conventions of the biopic with swashbuckling irreverence in this restless, inventive reflection on filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein’s life-changing visit to Mexico in 1931. We encounter the director of Battleship Potemkin as he travels south to start work on his ill-fated epic Que Viva Mexico, having spent two long, frustrating years in Hollywood. He is instantly smitten by the country, and by his handsome Mexican guide Palomino Cañedo (Luis Alberti).
