Glasgow Film Festival announce the Scottish Premiere of Wild Rose, starring Jessie Buckley, plus a special performance after the screening

Tom Harper’s film Wild Rose, which was filmed in Glasgow, will have its Scottish premiere on 28 February at Glasgow Film Festival. Lead actress Jessie Buckley will attend the screening, along with the film’s Glasgow-born writer Nicole Taylor and producer Faye Ward.

The film tells the story of a country music singer from Glasgow who dreams of becoming a Nashville star. After the Scottish Premiere, ticket holders will be invited to Glasgow’s famous country music venue, Grand Ole Opry, for a short musical set by Jessie Buckley and guitarist Neill MacColl.

Glasgow Film Festival 2019 opens Wednesday 20 February, 2019 with Jonah Hill’s directorial debut, Mid90s. Over the course of 12 days, the festival will screen 204 films and welcome a huge number of actors, filmmakers and industry guests – and thousands of film fans.

Recently confirmed guests include: Screenwriter David Hare (The White Crow); actress Kate Dickie (Tell It To The Bees); director Sacha Polack (Dirty God); record-breaking British yachtswomen Tracy Edwards MBE and Sally Hunter (Maiden); author and campaigner Moazzam Begg (Do No Harm); actor David Dastmalchian (All Creatures Here Below); and actor Sam Spruell (The World is Yours).

Joining director Brian Welsh for the Closing Night Gala screening of BEATS will be key cast members Cristian Ortega, Lorn MacDonald, Amy Mason, Gemma McElhinney, Rachel Jackson, Ross Mann, Laura Fraser and Brian Ferguson, plus co-writer Kieran Hurley, Director of Photography Benjamin Kracun, producer Camilla Bray, and musicians The Golden Filter and JD Twitch.

Guests already announced include Sir Michael Palin who will attend the UK premiere of Final Ascent and also discuss his varied and fascinating career in a special live Empire podcast, while Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley and The Pastel’s Stephen McRobbie join Daydream Nation director Lance Bangs for a post-screening Q&A. Magic Mike, American Horror Story and White Collar star Matt Bomer treads the red carpet at the Scottish premiere of Papi Chulo.

Other guests include: one of the world’s greatest dancers Carlos Acosta alongside his Yuli director Icíar Bollaín and writer Paul Laverty; stand-up comics-turned-directors Bo Burnham and Simon Amstell; actor and disability campaigner Adam Pearson; Irish musician Adrian Crowley; director Carol Morley; actors including Swedish horror icon Christina Lindberg; the star of Netflix’s latest hit, Sex Education, Connor Swindells; Josh O’Connor who stars in Only You; and rising stars Vicky Knight (Dirty God) and Hazel Doupe (Float Like a Butterfly).

Industry Programme

The festival’s Industry Programme includes spotlight interviews with director and writer Amma Asante and director Joe Penna. Other guests taking part in panel discussions include Alice Lowe, Hope Dickson Leach and Claire Pijman. There will also be a special live recording of the recently launched Girls on Film podcast with presenter Anna Smith, and a panel including Sacha Polak (Dirty God), Festival co-Director Allison Gardner and critic Simran Hans.
