Belgian Cinema ‘Both Sides Now’, Glasgow Film Festival 2019
Belgium is a small country with an immense cinematic heritage. National treasures range from Chantal Akerman, Yolanda Moreau, the Dardenne Brothers and Felix van Groeningen to Man Bites Dog’s Benoît Poelvoorde, and Hergé’s eternally rousing adventures of Tintin. This year’s country focus celebrates the best of contemporary Belgian cinema in an outstanding year that has brought global acclaim for Lukas Dhont’s Girl. The range and quality of Belgian cinema is reflected in a selection of films that include the stylish thriller Mothers’ Instinct, and wonderful animation This Magnificent Cake! Constantly undervalued in the pantheon of great European filmmaking nations, Belgium is more than ready for this close-up.
Thanks to the General Representation of the Government of Flanders in the UK / Embassy of Belgium and Wallonie-Bruxelles International / Embassy of Belgium.
