Clarion bike ride to Arrochar

Saturday 19 July, 2014

STUC

Please arrive at The STUC building (333 Woodlands Road, Glasgow, G3 6NG) at 8.45 for a 9.00 a.m. start.

Please be sure your bike is in good condition, tyres are pumped up and chain lubed!  If in doubt, have your local Bike Shop check it out or come to The Bike Station ‘Fix Your Own Bike’ session on Saturday or Wednesday (evening) and service it yourself!

Please wear weather appropriate clothes and bring spare inner tube(s), water, snacks etc…

The journey to Arrochar is 40 miles each way, but there are train stations at Clydebank, Dumbarton and Balloch for people who don’t want to do the full distance.  There is a station at Arrochar but trains are infrequent and space for bikes is very limited and may need to be booked in advance.

We’ll be stopping for a break at Balloch (and I’m sure plenty of others too!),  depending on our speed, aiming for lunch at The Village Inn in Arrochar early afternoon.

The route itself (NC7 and West Loch Lomond Cycle path) is nearly all off-road with a couple of minor inclines.  We will be cycling at a reasonably easy pace.

Our political action will be to drop some leaflets in fast Food outlets in Balloch supporting the Baker Union campaign to Unionise the fast food industry so a worthy cause!

Please drop me an email if you coming along,  so we have an idea about numbers and let the pub in Arrochar  to expect us.  J.McCarey@unison.co.uk
