Book Launch: Red Threads, A History of the People’s Flag
3 October, 2024, 8 p.m.
McNeills, 106 Torrisdale St, Glasgow G42 8PH
There will be a couple of readings by Henry Bell and friends, some songs, and a chance to buy a copy/have a pint and assure that you’ll order the book from the library.
There is no symbol, perhaps other than the crucifix and the crescent moon, that so many people have lived and died for. A standard of hope and resistance to millions, and of terror and tyranny to many. But why is the red flag red? How did it come to represent the workers against the propertied class? And how did it travel the world?
Billy Bragg said the book was ‘thrilling’
Owen Hatherly said it was ‘panoramic yet humane’
Hannah Proctor reckons it’s ‘An internationalist tour de force of revolutionary history’
Comrades, come rally.
