A History of Glasgow’s Byres Road by Barclay Price
Byres Road is often seen as the main thoroughfare and the beating heart of Glasgow’s West End. You will enjoy learning of its history as Barclay Price explains how it evolved from a dirt track, recounts his Barclay’s personal memories and reveals some hidden gems. The book also contains many wonderful photographs
Byres Road’s ‘development from unremarkable byway to today’s modern thoroughfare’ is how the author describes the history of this legendary road in Glasgow’s West End. The book is divided into 21 chapters, beginning naturally with its origins as a dirt track and how it grew from there. The other chapters deal with various themes, enabling the author to talk about all the aspects of Byres Road in turn. He spent the first 20 years of his life growing up in Ruthven Lane, so the book is written from the heart, with love, many interesting stories, and a profusion of photographs.
A History of Glasgow’s Byres Road by Barclay Price is available from Waterstones Byres Road, and other branches, plus online from Stenlake Publishing. £29.95.
