Glasgow Contemporary Art Fair 2022 review Pat Byrne

I was delighted to receive an invitation to go along to the Preview of the Glasgow Contemporary Art Fair; Jim an I thoroughly enjoyed being back in the Marquee at Kelvingrove meeting some of the artists, gallery owners and checking out the amazing range of contemporary art on display.

Glasgow Contemporary Art Fair continues Saturday, 28 and Sunday, 29 May, 2022.

After Coronavirus you really appreciate being out and about among people once again and we were happy to see some familiar faces. We enjoyed a chat with Teresa Lowe and Babs Crossan.

The Exhibition

There is tremendous diversity in both artistic styles and the subjects.  Below are some of the exhibits that caught my eye:

I loved Gil Walton‘s print of the woman in Ukranian dress – it’s her intention to donate the proceeds from the sale of this to Ukraine.

The oil painting by the Ayrshire artist Graham McKean capture the subjects perfectly and bring a smile to your face.

I enjoyed a chat with Graham, whose work has become His work has now become highly collectible and has attracted buyers from around the world.

Graham supports a number of charities through events and auctions.

Both Gordon Wilson’s floral paintings and more humorous exhibits catch the eye.

I thought Moy Mackay‘s ‘The Wee Blue House in Cove’ was beautiful. She has a gallery in Peebles.

John Byrne’s work is always striking and very recognisable – The Yellow Guitar Man is no exception.  When you’re at the GCAF a very good idea would be to drop into Kelvingrove Art Gallery where you can catch the John Byrne ‘A Big Adventure’ Exhibition 

We were particularly watching out for Sarah Kudirka at Exhibition Space 26 and loved the unusual texture of her oil on linen work.

Award winning designer Richard Glass’ ‘Heart of Glass Exhibition’ attracted a lot of attention.

Willie Sutherland‘s work is invariably exciting ‘Human For Life’ certainly has impact.

Pascale Steenkiste’s colourful abstracts also caught my eye.

The best idea is to go along and enjoy the exhibition. It continues 28 and 29 May at the Marquee at Kelvingrove.
