Ziggy Stardust and Spiders from Mars
D A Pennebaker’s concert film is regularly recognised as one of the greatest ever.
GFT / Sat 20 Feb, 2016 (23.15) Festival for a Fiver
Running time:1h28m
An immortal document of one of the most enigmatic, striking and excessive periods in music, D A Pennebaker’s concert film is regularly recognised as one of the greatest ever. In his Ziggy Stardust guise for the final time, David Bowie and his backing band, The Spiders from Mars, are on savagely beautiful form – tearing through classics of the era such as ‘All the Young Dudes’ and ‘Oh! You Pretty Things’ with joyful abandon. The film will be preceded by a screening of Let’s Dance: Bowie Down Under (Gibbs & Shah, 11m, 2015). This short documentary looks at David Bowie a decade later, during the making of his 1983 hit ‘Let’s Dance’.
