Laura Bates and Anne Dickson: Everyday Feminism and How to Fix it
In an age often called ‘post-feminist’, the blog set up by Laura Bates – Everyday Sexism – was a revelation, as numerous women sent in their experiences of being demeaned, intimidated and reviled. On the eve of the publication of the book inspired by it, she is joined by Anne Dickson, whose Teaching Men To Be Feminists sets out possible strategies to change this. Anne previously wrote the influential A Woman In Your Own Right. In an age where only 15% of the Cabinet are women, we are proud to be spearheading a discussion on how to forge a new equality.
In addition to founding the Everyday Sexism Project, Laura Bates is also contributor at Women Under Siege, a New York-based project working to combat the use of sexualised violence as a tool of war. She has written for the Independent, the Huffington Post, Grazia, the Women’s Media Center and JUMP! magazine for girls.
Anne Dickson has worked as a freelance psychologist, writer and trainer for many years and is recognised as a leading authority on women’s development, assertiveness training and interactive communication. Her best-selling, widely translated A Woman in Your Own Right is still used as a core textbook for assertiveness training around the world.
