If you want to perform at the Cottier Theatre in November 2003, live in the West End of Glasgow and would relish the opportunity to work closely with experienced theatre professionals in creating, devising and rehearsing a brand new play then contact Collusion now! E-mail: admin@collusiontheatre.co.uk or telephone 0141 644 0163.
Collusion is looking for local people of all ages who want to become involved. The launch will be held on Friday 12 September at 7.00pm at the Annexe Healthy Living Centre, Stewartsville Street, Partick. A period of workshops will then commence from Wednesday 17 September.
The history of the former Dowanhill Church, now the Cottier Theatre, and the design work of Daniel Cottier will form the basis of a period of research, debate, drama workshops and, ultimately, a devised performance to be staged at the Cottier in November this year.
Daniel Cottier's influence on other artists and designers can be seen, for example, in the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the Glasgow School, yet much less is known about the former's life and work. Both were proponents of the 'Art for Arts Sake' school of thought, holding aesthetic beauty to be an end in itself.
Collusion is aiming to stimulate excitement and interest in design and heritage and in the Cottier building itself. The ways in which this will be done will be unusual and entertaining, therefore distancing the project from the ideas people have of heritage issues being dry and boring. The end result will be an original and enjoyable piece of theatre, the direction of which has been influenced by the input of the community.
This project is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. For further information about the project or to register your interest contact Collusion.
