Young Talent is an annual showcase of the artwork created by children and young people from Project Ability’sCreate Programme and is now in its 13th year. To celebrate the artwork of the Create artists, we are presenting a diverse assortment of painting, drawing, ceramics and installations with a collective theme of creatures, both real and imagined.
Young Talent offers Project Ability’s young artists the chance to exercise and display their creative ideas by experimenting with multi-layered artistic practices and methods. These investigations amass each year to produce a distinctive collective display which punctuates the year with a colourful playground of artwork of different techniques and visions, a wealth of experimentation, innovation and adventure.
Project Ability’s Create Programme engages with children and young people with disabilities in a wide range of creative activities including visual arts, film and new media. The programme includes evening and weekend workshops, one-off projects, events, film screenings and exhibitions. All of our activities are tailored to the individuals we work with and are fully inclusive. The professional artists who deliver the programme are highly experienced in working with young people with a wide range of support needs. We work with individuals, families, schools, voluntary sector groups and other arts organisations with a target age group of 5 – 25 years.

It provided a perfect opportunity to work alongside some very interesting and inspiring young individuals. It was a treat to be able to spend time with the older kids in particular and share in their enthusiasm towards their artwork.”

Jerry Dowds & Redjade Yuan – ‘Circadian Symphony’Opening reception: Thursday 30 May, 5-7pm
Exhibition: 31 May – 15 June
The Royal Glasgow Institute exists to promote contemporary art and one of the ways in which it does this is by awarding a Graduate prize at the Glasgow School of Art degree show. In 2012, the prize was awarded to two very different and distinct artists, Redjade Yuan and Jerry Dowds. As part of this award both artists will be exhibiting new works at the Institute’s Kelly Gallery.
Jerry is based in Glasgow and works with sculpture, painting, video and digital technology.
“My work reflects upon everyday objects and rituals, exploring the colour and mood of an instant. Paired down visuals which occupy the space between abstraction and representation. I use commonly found materials and report on our daily rituals, allowing us to acknowledge the overlooked and ruminate upon the ephemeral.” – Jerry Dowds
Yuan’s work explores psychogeographical symphony in everyday life.
Yuan’s works in multimedia including performance, video, installation, sculpture, photography, and print. She is from Beijing and has been living and studying in UK since 2009.

Patricia Cain - 'Building the Riverside Museum'One of the driving forces behind The Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Patricia Cain, has been awarded this year's £25,000 Threadneedle Prizefor her painting Building the Riverside Museum which features the building under construction.
Patricia's work was chosen from a shortlist of seven which included three Scottish artists, by selectors Xavier Bray, Assistant Curator at the National Gallery, David Rayson, Professor of Painting at the Royal College of Art and Michael Sandle RA, Fellow of the Royal British Society of Sculptors.
Earlier this year, Patricia, who lives and works in Glasgow, won the Aspect Prize 2009/10. Patricia trained as a lawyer before becoming a full-time artist in 2004, going on to complete her PhD at Glasgow School of Art. Her work is focused largely on the regeneration of Glasgow, and Building the Riverside Museum explores the physical construction of the Glasgow Riverside Museum of Transport, designed by architect Zaha Hadid.

Born in Derry, N.Ireland and currently living in Scotland, John Deery has always had a passion for Art and takes it with him wherever he goes. He enjoys working in a variety of media, from watercolour to oils, although most of my work now features acrylic paint and mixed media. His passion for travel and adventure has given John a love of landscapes, and the world's ever changing and wildly varied surfaces are the focus of much of his work. He currently paints, plays music and works as an art teacher in Glasgow.
