HIS LIFE IS A SPECIAL EFFECT!
Mike Jittlov is a struggling filmmaker, challenged to expand his special effects reel into a feature for a big-time film studio. Unbeknownst to him, the producer is literally betting against him, making it a race against time and the odds to complete his opus!
Matchbox Cineclub’s monthly residency continues with a lost classic and a tour-de-force of outsider filmmaking. Mike Jittlov writes, directs, produces and stars in a masterpiece of energy, ingenuity and sheer filmmaking exuberance, based on his own experiences as a special effects “wizard”. The Wizard of Speed and Time was filmed in 1983, saw a brief theatrical release in 1989 but has never been released on DVD. This screening is by arrangement with the Wizard himself, Mike Jittlov.
This rare screening is preceded by a practical special effects demonstration from SFX Supervisor Mike Kelt (Hot Fuzz, Four Lions, Macbeth) of local masters of movie wizardry Artem.
