The Public, GFT
21 – 25 February, 2020
Emilio Estevez has created a moving, thought-provoking, state-of-the-nation drama in The Public. Estevez stars as Stuart, a loyal member of staff at a public library in Cincinnati that has become a cherished sanctuary for dozens of the city’s homeless. On the coldest night of the year, with shelters filled to capacity, the library patrons refuse to leave. A peaceful sit-in escalates to national news, reflecting social divisions, political hypocrisy and a manipulative media. Alec Baldwin plays the police negotiator trying to prevent an act of civil disobedience becoming a tragedy. GFF19
