Broken English – GFT
3 – 9 April, 2026
A collaborative documentary which turned unexpectedly into a posthumous memorial, this unorthodox portrait of rock icon Marianne Faithfull is a richly layered mixtape of first-hand interviews, rare archive material, musical performances and star guests. Faithfull, who died midway through the project, looks back candidly on a life shrouded in myth, colourful gossip and sexist scandal. Blurring the line between visual artists and filmmakers, co-directors Jane Pollard and Iain Forsyth frame this ambitious hybrid with lightly fictionalised vignettes starring Tilda Swinton as the curator of Faithfull’s memory museum. Friends and collaborators, including Nick Cave and Courtney Love, also make musical cameos.
