The Prescription – Glasgow creative writing group in medical humanities
New creative writing group working with a significant Glasgow medical archive
Apply to join The Prescription – Closing Date 15 January, 2023
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow’s St Vincent Street is an internationally-renowned centre for training and professional examinations and holds an important collection of printed material, art and artefacts charting Glasgow’s history of patient care and the development of medical treatment over centuries.
About The Prescription
A new creative writing group, the prescription, will use the archive to generate discussion and new writing around medical humanities in four themed workshops held monthly in the College’s Library from March to June 2023. Items from the collection will be introduced and there will be time for writing as well as looking at current mainstream publications by leading writers. A pamphlet of work produced will be launched at a public event in the College in October 2023. In addition, there will be an open creative writing competition linked to the prescription, with prizes in the categories of poetry, prose and hybrid work. The winners will be announced at the event.
Applications are welcome from both writers and health professionals who would like to extend their interests creatively. Or you may be an individual interested in writing around medical issues, history and thinking – this area of writing is proving ever more popular in opening up discussion of health concerns more widely.
More information about the project and the application form can be found on the RCPSG’s Heritage blog.
