Celtic Connections 19 January – 5 February, 2023
Oregon duo The Hackles impressed with their debut album, but it was the follow-up, 2019’s A Dobritch Did As A Dobritch Should, that established them well beyond the shores of the USA. In the UK, The Daily Express called it “gorgeous Americana,” while RnR magazine said it was “magnificent.” Folk Radio UK praised the “intelligent, highly melodic song-writing.”
Kati Claborn and Luke Ydstie are both core members of the band Blind Pilot. Their sumptuous vocal harmonies and writing skills confirmed them as a major force on the Americana/indie-folk circuit. The Hackles, now a trio, have a new album coming. A couple of tracks are written by close friend and long-time auxiliary member Halli Anderson of the band River Whyless, who joins them here.
New York singer-songwriter, harpist and guitarist Lizzie No is one of the most exciting new voices in contemporary Americana music. Her 2017 debut album Hard Won was hailed as “simultaneously understated and fervent” by Billboard. Her 2019 album Vanity was a college radio hit across the US; Rolling Stone calling the first single Narcissus a “crisp alt-rock gem”. After dropping a home-studio-made EP in 2020, Lizzie is currently working on her third album for release in 2023.
“Lizzie No has been quietly making superb records largely on her own over the past several years.” (Rolling Stone)
