Five poets with new collections – an amazing evening in store

Lindy Barbour was born in Orkney and brought up in North East Fife. She now lives in rural Lanarkshire and is a psychodynamic counsellor, teaching Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Edinburgh. She began to write poetry in a series of workshops held by Liz Lochhead at Glasgow School of Art.

William Bonar gained a distinction on the MLitt in Creative Writing at Glasgow University in 2008. He was a participant on the Clydebuilt mentoring scheme (2009-10) under the tutelage of Liz Lochhead, His poem, Visiting Winter: A Johannesburg Quintet, was chosen for the Scottish Poetry Library’s online anthology Best Scottish Poems of 2012 and he was shortlisted for a New Writers Award in 2015. He is the recipient of the James Kirkup Memorial Poetry Prize for 2014 and his winning manuscript, entitled Offering, was published by Red Squirrel Press in April 2015.

Stephanie Green has an MPhil in Creative Writing (2004) from Glasgow University , where she was tutored by Liz Lochhead. Her pamphlet ‘Glass Works’ (Cat’s Pyjamas Publications, 2005), was short listed for the Callum Macdonald Award. Later, she was mentored by Jen Hadfield whilst writing her new pamphlet ‘Flout’ (HappenStance, 2015), inspired by Shetland landscape, folklore and culture and which launched earlier this year to a sell-out event at StAnza.

Ian McDonough was born and brought up in Brora on the East Coast of Sutherland. His poem sequence “A Rising Fever” was published in pamphlet form by Kettilonia in 2000. His first play “51 Pegasus” toured Scotland in 2003 and around the same time his first full-length poetry collection “Clan MacHine”, published by Chapman, was shortlisted for Saltire Scottish First Book of the Year. His latest collection ‘A Witch Among The Gooseberries’ came out on Mariscat recently.

Eveline Pye was born in Glasgow and studied Statistics at Glasgow University. She worked as an Operational Research Analyst in the Zambian Copper Industry from 1975 to 1983. She was selected for the Clydebuilt mentoring scheme in 2009. Her poetry was showcased in Northlight, an anthology of the Clydebuilt 3 mentees mentored by Liz Lochhead and she read at Stanza in 2012. She is the only poet ever to have published in Significance, the joint magazine of the Royal Statistical Society and the American Statistical Association.
