Leto GFT
16 – 22 August, 2019
Rock’n’roll has always been an act of rebellion but never more so than in the Russia of the 1980s. Kirill Serebennikov’s vivid, playful evocation of the period revolves around the musical rivalry between Leningrad rocker Mike (Roma Zver) and newcomer Viktor (Teo Yoo), who clash over politics, influences and the love of Mike’s wife Natasha (Irina Starshenbaum). Based on a true story, the film celebrates the sheer thrill of being in a band and making music in a time and place when it really matters. Winner of the Cannes Soundtrack Award in 2018, featuring exuberant cover versions of ‘All The Young Dudes’ and ‘The Passenger’. GFF19
Leto contains a sequence of flashing lights which might affect customers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.
