Le Doulos, GFT, 8 – 10 September, 2017

Burglar Maurice is fresh out of prison when he commits a violent act of vengeance. Descending into a criminal world of moral ambiguity, he hunts for the traitor who first put him behind bars. Planning a new robbery with a thief who may or may not be a police informant, Maurice quickly learns that nothing is as it seems. In this shadowy crime masterpiece, Melville demonstrates his unique ability to blend American genre tropes and Gallic sensibilities, with repurposed classic noir mechanics, stylised camerawork and an effortlessly cool leading man.
