Glasgow’s Lost Buildings – Kelvin Hall – 17 September, 6.30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Wednesday, 17th September at Kelvin Hall for an in-person and virtual special talk and screening exploring Glasgow’s lost buildings — a fascinating look at the city’s vanished architecture.
Explore the stories behind Glasgow’s lost architecture with Joseph Sharples, Curator of Mackintosh and Applied Art and Design at The Hunterian, highlighting three remarkable but now-demolished buildings: the 1888 International Exhibition building, the University of Glasgow’s Old College, and 78 Southpark Avenue – the former home of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh.
Norry Wilson of Lost Glasgow will delve into the city’s rich history of vanished landmarks, forgotten spaces, and the stories they left behind.
The event concludes with a curated screening by Liam Paterson, Assistant Curator at the National Library of Scotland, featuring rare archival footage celebrating Glasgow’s architectural past and present.

Finding Glasgow – Kelvin Hall (re)collects – Saturday 20th September, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Discover Glasgow 850 through a series of talks, tours, films and conversations.
You will have the opportunity to record your memories of Glasgow for the NLS Sound and Moving Image Archive as part of the Kelvin Hall re(collects) project.
Curatorial experts from the Hunterian, Glasgow Life Museums and the National Library of Scotland will be on hand throughout the day to answer your questions on the collections at Kelvin Hall.
Kelvin Hall’s volunteer-led building tour will run at intervals throughout the day. It’s a great opportunity to learn about the history of the building and have a peek behind the scenes.
