That West End Style

Currie and Quirk place considerable emphasis on both eye care and style. They are aware of what’s in vogue and have new styles arriving every other day.

All of our frames are individually chosen by us to reflect the style and tastes of our patients, who are not afraid to set a trend rather than follow one.

Each frame is hand selected and includes up to the minute designs. Currie and Quirk  specialise in Luxury Brand Eyewear including Oakley, Chanel, Ray-Ban, Tiffany & Co, Tom Ford Prada, Gucci, Diesel, Roberto Cavalli, Giorgio Armani, Marc Jacobs, Bvlgari and Dolce & Gabbana –  plus other well known brands. In addition  unusual and interesting ranges are sourced from around the world including: the Pro-Design range from Denmark, Booth & Bruce of England and Face a Face Paris  – with modern shapes and colours reflecting  changing opinions of what glasses should look like.

You will also finsd stylish modern designs, which are less expensive than branded names – “suitable for students who want a certain style but may be living on a tight budget”. Very popular with this group is the Oscar + Fitch range, which comes in a huge range of colours and styles at very competitive prices.

Scott Currie believes that: “We all live locally and know the area and the people who live in the West End really well, therefore, we have been able to respond to requests for something ‘different’ and reflect the independence that keeps the West End that little bit special“.

We are happy to order in specific “one-off” styles or source certain colours that patients want to try and cannot find elsewhere. – We want to offer a type of service as unique as the West End itself

Eye care

At Currie and Quirk’s the view is that: “Having an eye test shouldn’t be just about selecting new glasses or contact lenses” and Gordon Quirk goes on to point out that:

Many different and potentially serious conditions can be detected through regular eye examinations … everyone should make a point of having their eyes tested regularly.

At your appointment a qualified Dispensing Optician will advise you on :

  • Technology for your eyes
  • Single vision lenses
  • Bifocal lenses
  • Thinner, lighter lenses
  • Varifocals
  • Polycarbonate (for safety)
  • Scratch resistant coatings
  • Reflection Free Coatings
  • High Index Lenses

Every resident in Scotland, including students here to study, can have an eye examination paid for by the NHS .

Hopefully, this encourages those who do not normally need glasses, to have an eye examination to ensure that their eyes are healthy“.

Children

Currie and Quirk offer an excellent service for children with free frames available plus late night opening so that you can arrange an appointment outwith school hours. They highlight the importance of eye tests for children – it is recommended that children under 16 years of age should have their eyes tested at least every 12 months and very young children should always have their eyes tested before they start primary school. In this way, any slight abnormality can be detected and treated and may prevent the need to wear glasses or contact lenses in later life.

Currie and Quirk are contracted to Yorkhill Children’s Hospital in Glasgow to provide a weekly clinic for children and babies, and specialise in paediatric dispensing of glasses for very young and new born children. In addition they  work closely with Downs Syndrome Scotland and one of the few Opticians in Scotland to offer specialist frames for children and teenagers with Downs.

Eye Care for Older People

Eye care is also important for the older age group.

As we get older, we begin to develop problems with our eyes which may need to be closely monitored. For this reason, everyone over the age of 60 years may have further tests carried out during the eye examination and those over 70 years should be seen every 12 months, rather than every 2 years, as a preventative measure.
