Glasgow City Tours: Behind the Scenes at Glasgow Central Station
Behind the Scenes at Glasgow Central Station
Glasgow’s 135 year old Central Station is Scotland’s busiest train station. In 2012 Door Open Day held tours of the station which sold out instantly. Now more extensive tours have been organised lasting 90 minutes and costing £10.
Profits from the tour will help pay for improvements at the station. They will include: climbing the ninety steps to the station’s historic glass roof, said to be the biggest in the world, and with wonderful views across the River Clyde and the city of Glasgow, the old steam engine boiler rooms and derelict tunnels in the basement.
Tourists will also visit the abandoned Victorian village Grahamston, which the station was built over in 1879.
